The prestigious workshops are in high demand, since they are an instructive and joyful way for children and young people to spend their free time receiving Spanish Dance and Fusion lessons according to the Ballet Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba style. One of its distinctive features and principal attractions is that workshop professors are the company’s dancers, so students follow their training in the studios and on stage.
Their beginnings date back to 1992 – barely one year after the company was founded – at Old Havana’s Culture House. They were welcomed later by the Concepción Arenal Student Society, where they remained until 2003, when they moved to the Gran Teatro de La Habana. Since 2004 these workshops are held in our headquarters in the capital’s historic section.
During this long period hundreds of children and adolescents have taken lessons in ours studios, feeling the influence of love for dance and music and the rigor and perseverance that we teach them.
At present registration stands at approximately one thousands students who make up groups by ages and levels of knowledge.
Every year, as of the second week of September, there is a call for children between six and seven years of age. At the beginning they are organized in small groups called “Círculos de Interés” (Interest Clubs) where they receive a weekly lesson. The remaining groups are made up of continuing students between eight and sixteen years of age. They take a one-hour lesson twice a week. They are identified by the name and color of a flower (Daisy, Poppy, and Orchid).
The Ballet Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba Vocational Workshop students usually have several performances during the course on important Havana stages and they have been guests on television programs and different events. Each course, from September to June, includes a closing ceremony or gala where students show the knowledge acquired during that period.
